Luigi Scazzieri is a non-resident associate fellow at CER. He is the senior analyst for defence at the EU Institute for Security Studies. His work focuses on European security and defence. Between 2016 and 2025, Luigi held a range of positions at the CER, including the role of assistant director in 2025.  

Luigi regularly briefs politicians, government officials and corporate leaders on issues relating to European security and defence. He has given oral evidence to the European Parliament, the British House of Commons and the House of Lords. He has contributed opinion pieces on European foreign policy and European politics to outlets such as The Guardian, Project Syndicate, CNN and The Times.  

Luigi holds a PhD in European Politics from King's College London, MA degrees from the LSE and King's College London and a BA from the University of Cambridge.
