Audio recording of the 'Economists on Brexit' debate
Listen to the CER debate hosted on 21 April on the motion: 'Leaving the EU would damage Britain's economy'. Gerard Lyons, Mayor of London's Office, and Roger Bootle, Capital Economics, spoke against the motion, and Stephanie Flanders, JP Morgan Asset Management, and Martin Wolf, Financial Times, spoke for.
86% of the audience, the majority of whom were economists, agreed that leaving the EU would damage Britain's economy.
The event marked the launch of the CER’s updated report ‘The economic consequences of leaving the EU’.
The event was introduced with a keynote speech by former prime minister Gordon Brown, who said: "If we are going to create the jobs we need in the future we'll need to be right at the centre of things. 1 million jobs could be created if we can secure digital market, banking, energy market and services market reforms [at EU level]."
