Boris Johnson wants a Turkey deal for Christmas
Sam Lowe, a trade expert at the Centre for European Reform, said the current trade setup between the UK and Turkey “needs to be replicated [from 2021], but it’s going to be impossible to replicate." Even if the two sides do strike a deal, nothing will match the seamless relationship of a customs union....Lowe, from the Centre for European Reform, spelled out what would be at stake for both Turkey and the UK. “The risk is it could lead to the complete collapse of the Turkey-EU economic relationship, and I don't think that's something that the U.K. should be encouraging,” he explained. “It would be terrible for UK-EU relations and would be seen as the UK encouraging bad behavior by a country that is not exactly behaving very well at the moment.”
...However, Lowe is confident that if a deal between the UK and EU is struck, a deal with Turkey should fall into place. “I think the UK and Turkey will move very quickly to make it happen,” he said.
